Utah Authors Day 2025

1-4pm

Drop by our open-house style Utah Authors Day event, sponsored by The League of Utah Writers. Meet 24 local authors, who write for children, tweens, teens, and adults; there will be something for EVERYONE! Waffle Love Food Truck will be serving from 12:30-4pm for this event.

Join in a breakout session: including children's storytime, readings, panels and workshops throughout the event. Enter to win raffle prizes donated by authors or a pair of free tickets to our Jane Austen Birthday Tea Party on Dec 16! Winners do not have to be present to win!

Stop by the free gift wrap station and walk away with holiday gifts ready to go! It will be a book lover's dream come true!

There will be a wrapping station if you want to gift the “new” game to someone else!

An Austentatious Birthday Tea Party

Celebrate with us as Jane Austen turns 250 today! We highly encourage donning your finest regency and tea party attire!

Registration Required, Tickets are $5 each and include tea and other warm drinks in a commemorative mug and tea party treats. In addition to your commemorative mug, there will be chances to win fun prizes and giveaways! Share your Jane Austen knowledge in a friendly trivia game, learn to play the Regency favorite card game Whist, and enjoy the company of other Austen enthusiasts!

Judith Hale Everett, local Regency romance author, will share a behind-the-scenes look at the customs and beliefs of Jane Austen’s time, how they influenced her writing, and how she utilizes them in her books. Each table will have a local Regency romance author to get to know, with opportunity to chat with and purchase books from all 12 visiting authors after the presentation.

Ages 13+ would be most interested in the presentation, but if 10-12 yo girls who LOVE all things Jane Austen and would enjoy the event, please feel free to bring them along!

Join us for a cozy and festive evening as we present a holiday classic that all ages will love! We'll be providing the popcorn and movie while you experience the magic of Charles Dickens' timeless tale told with the signature whimsy and memorable songs of the muppets.
Dec. 12 @ 4pm - Home Alone
Laugh your way into the holiday spirit with this classic holiday movie about Kevin McCallister accidentally getting left behind when his family flies to Paris for Christmas.
Dec. 19 @ 4pm - The Grinch
Get in the holiday spirit by watching Dr Seuss' The Grinch animated classic story about a grumpy Grinch who plans to steal Christmas from the cheerful town of Whoville.
Dec. 22 @ 6pm - Elf
Enjoy this classic holiday movie about a human raised as an elf in the North Pole travels to New York City to find his biological father and struggles to navigate the normal human world while spreading Christmas cheer.

 

Wicked Spell
November Passive Activity

Create your own spell worthy of the Grimmerie. Will it be wicked or for good?
Ask at the teen desk for parchment and a quill. Turn in your spell to a librarian for a prize, and your spell will be placed on the Grimmerie board.

Teen/Adult Club: The Commonplace Society
Most Fridays from September 12 - March 20
November Meetings: 7th & 14th
The Commonplace Society is a creative journaling club for ages 13 and older. Together we’ll build a “book of everything”—a mix of writing, collage, quotes, spiritual wisdom, lists, and more—while learning about the history of commonplacing (zibaldone) and the benefits of journaling, from reducing anxiety to preserving memories. We meet twice a month to practice techniques, keep up the journaling habit, and explore with plenty of creative supplies (stickers, washi tape, stamps, and more). Registration is required once for the series. Space is limited, and the program is only for ages 13+.

Wanna make charms, magnets, keychains, and more? Clay is an excellent material to make that happen!
Join other creative minds like yourself and learn how to use clay with tips and tricks. This club meets the 1st Tuesday of every month from Sept - April. This club is for teens ages 13-18 and registration is not required. Meets in Teen Program Room D.

This club aims to empower teen writers by fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Our mission is to help each other enhance our writing skills through critiques, idea-sharing, and open discussions. The club meets every other Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Once a month we will have a local author attend the meeting to provide insight and answer your questions.
This club is for teens ages 13-18 and registration is not required. Meets in Teen Program Room D.

Teen Club: Dungeons & Dragons

Every Saturday at 2 p.m.
Hear ye, brave adventurers! The winds of fate howl through the streets of Baldur's Gate, and the shadows stir in places best left untouched. A call echoes across the land-- heroes are needed. Will you answer? 
Join our teen D&D club for an epic campaign inspired by the legendary Baldur's Gate 2. Whether you're a seasoned sword-swinger or a fledgling spellcaster, there's a place for you at the table. No registration is required! But beware: the gods favor the swift, and only the first 8 players each session may enter the fray. Adventurers must be teens ages 13 to 18. The club meets every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the teen computer room. You may bring your own character as long as they're brand new. Gather your dice (or borrow ours). The realms await.

Kick back, relax, and grab a snack with friends every Monday! Drop in, chill out, and make the most of your extra time. This program goes from 3 to 4 p.m. This club is for ages 13-18 and registration is not required. Meets in Teen Program Room D


Chess Club

Sept 16 at 6 p.m.

This club is for ages 8+ and for all skill levels. Those between 8 and 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. We have chess boards, but you may bring your own. The club will meet the third Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the teen program room D. There is no chess instructor provided at this time. Registration is not required.
