Social Media Comment Policy

Spanish Fork City uses social media to share information about City programs, services, events, public safety, projects, and other matters of community interest. We welcome residents' questions, comments, and participation.

City social media pages are moderated. Comments posted by members of the public represent the views of the individual commenter and do not necessarily represent the views of Spanish Fork City.

To keep discussions relevant and appropriate, the City may hide or remove comments consistent with this policy.

Comments may be moderated if they:

  • Are unrelated to the topic of the original City post;
  • Contain obscene, profane, threatening, harassing, or defamatory content;
  • Contain personal attacks or content that unlawfully discriminates against or targets individuals or groups;
  • Encourage or advocate illegal activity;
  • Contain spam or repetitive content;
  • Promote commercial products or services;
  • Promote or campaign for or against a political candidate, party, or ballot proposition when unrelated to the City's post;
  • Infringe copyrights, trademarks, or other legal rights;
  • Disclose private, confidential, sensitive, or personally identifiable information; or
  • Contain malicious links or content that may compromise the security of City systems or other users.

The City will apply this policy without regard to the viewpoint expressed in a comment.

Repeated violations may result in restrictions when permitted by law and by the applicable social media platform.

Public Records

Comments, messages, and other communications involving City social media may be considered public records and may be subject to applicable records-retention and disclosure requirements.

Platform Rules

City social media accounts are also subject to the terms, policies, and technical controls of the company operating each social media platform. Spanish Fork City does not control those platforms or their independent decisions to remove, restrict, retain, or display content.
