Spanish Fork Fire & EMS Responds to Residential Fire on East Canyon Drive

Spanish Fork, Utah — At 1:08 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, Spanish Fork Fire & EMS responded to a residential structure fire near 900 East Canyon Drive. The fire was reported to have started in a basement bedroom, where a teenage male had ignited cardboard. The family evacuated the home before first responders arrived, uncertain whether there was an active fire.

Crews arrived to find active fire in the basement bedroom and smoke throughout the rest of the basement. Firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire. The residence sustained significant damage and is currently uninhabitable. The family has been displaced and is staying with relatives.

One firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion. The teenage male who started the fire was transported for treatment of burns to his hands and for smoke inhalation.

Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was supported by mutual aid partners, including Salem Fire Department, Payson Fire and Rescue, Central Utah 911, and the Spanish Fork Police Department, which provided traffic control. A total of 24 firefighters responded.
