Spanish Fork Fire & EMS crews responded yesterday afternoon to a brush fire near 1400 East River Bottoms Road, just below the Pioneer Cemetery. The fire was reported between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m., and crews were able to contain and knock it down within approximately 30 minutes.
The fire was burning uphill toward a nearby residential area, but the swift response by fire personnel prevented any injuries or damage to structures. It burned approximately two acres of hillside in the area.
"Our crews responded quickly and appropriately. We are pleased we were able to prevent any injuries or damage to homes," said Fire Chief Eddie Hales.
Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was assisted by Spanish Fork Police, Utah County Sheriff, Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands, US Forest Service, Mapleton Fire & Rescue, Salem Fire & EMS, and Utah County Fire Department.
The fire appears to have originated from a spark from a city mowing operation in the area. The incident is under investigation, and a full review will be conducted.
