General Trail Rules

Spanish Fork’s trails are shared community spaces. Please follow posted signs and use the trail responsibly so everyone can enjoy a safe and welcoming experience.

  • Use trails only during posted hours.
  • Obey all posted signs, closures, barriers and temporary restrictions.
  • Stay on designated trails and avoid creating unauthorized paths.
  • Do not enter areas closed for maintenance, construction, flooding or unsafe conditions.
  • Keep trails, trailheads and surrounding natural areas clean.
  • Place garbage in a receptacle or carry it out with you.
  • Do not damage signs, vegetation, fencing or other public property.
  • Motor vehicles, motorcycles, ATVs and e-motos are prohibited unless specifically authorized.
  • Camping and open fires are prohibited unless expressly permitted in a designated area.
  • Respect nearby homes, businesses, parks and private property.

Spanish Fork trails are used by walkers, runners, bicyclists, families and visitors of varying abilities. Please remain aware of others and share the trail courteously.

  • Keep to the right except when passing.
  • Pass on the left and announce yourself before passing.
  • Travel at a safe and controlled speed.
  • Bicyclists and other faster users must yield to pedestrians.
  • Slow down near children, pets, intersections, blind corners and congested areas.
  • Do not stop or gather in a way that blocks the trail.
  • Keep groups together and leave room for others to pass safely.
  • Use lights or reflective equipment during low-light conditions.
  • Keep headphone volume low enough to hear other trail users and surrounding conditions.
  • Be courteous and allow other users enough time and space to respond.

Bicycles and other permitted wheeled devices must be operated responsibly and in accordance with Utah law and all posted trail restrictions.

  • Maintain a safe speed appropriate for trail conditions and surrounding users.
  • Yield to pedestrians and announce yourself before passing.
  • Slow down near trailheads, crossings, playgrounds, parks and congested areas.
  • Keep bicycles and equipment under control at all times.
  • Do not perform tricks, jumps or other activities that could endanger trail users or damage the trail.
  • Do not use natural-surface trails when they are wet, muddy or posted closed.
  • E-bike use is subject to Utah law and any trail-specific restrictions.
  • Motorcycles, e-motos, ATVs and other unauthorized motorized vehicles are prohibited.
  • Follow posted directional or difficulty signs on mountain-bike trails.
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment, including a properly fitted helmet.

Dogs are welcome on designated trails when they are kept under control and their owners follow posted rules.

  • Dogs must remain on a leash outside designated off-leash dog-park areas.
  • Keep dogs close enough to prevent conflicts with people, bicycles, wildlife and other animals.
  • Remove and properly dispose of all pet waste.
  • Do not leave filled waste bags along the trail.
  • Prevent dogs from entering restricted areas or disturbing wildlife.
  • Step to the side when necessary to allow other trail users to pass safely.
  • Owners are responsible for their dog’s behavior and any resulting damage.
  • Service animals are welcome as permitted by law and must remain under the handler’s control.

Trail surfaces and surrounding conditions can change because of weather, flooding, maintenance and seasonal operations. Check current conditions before beginning your trip.

  • Do not enter trails or trail segments marked closed.
  • Avoid natural-surface trails when they are muddy or saturated.
  • Use extra caution near rivers, canals, ponds and other bodies of water.
  • Keep children and pets away from high, fast-moving or unstable water.
  • Watch for ice, snow, mud, debris and uneven surfaces.
  • Trail surfaces may not receive immediate snow or ice removal.
  • Carry sufficient water and prepare for changing weather conditions.
  • Tell someone your route when traveling alone or using more remote trails.
  • Call 911 for emergencies.
  • Report flooding, fallen trees, damaged surfaces or other hazards to Spanish Fork City.
  • Some trail systems may close seasonally; observe the dates and notices posted for each location.

Trail surfaces, grades, widths and accessible features vary throughout the system. Review the interactive map and trail information before visiting to identify routes that best meet your needs.

Please report concerns such as:

  • Fallen trees or branches
  • Damaged pavement or trail surfaces
  • Missing or damaged signs
  • Flooding or drainage problems
  • Damaged fences, gates or trail amenities
  • Obstructions or unsafe conditions
  • Graffiti or vandalism
  • Overflowing garbage receptacles

When submitting a report, include the trail name, nearest access point or landmark, a description of the concern and a photograph when possible.
