Administrative Violations

Spanish Fork City uses an administrative process for certain City ordinance violations. This allows someone who receives a Notice of Violation to pay an administrative fee instead of a court fine. It also changes the violation from a criminal offense to an administrative violation, which does not appear on a person’s criminal history. Most administrative violations involve animal, parking or zoning issues.

Administrative violation fees may be paid:

  • In person at the Spanish Fork Police Department, 789 W Center St
  • By mail to the Spanish Fork Police Department, 789 W Center St
  • By credit card over the phone at 801-804-4700

Payment may be made by personal check, cashier’s check, debit or credit card, or money order. A copy of the Notice of Violation must be provided with payment.

Fix-it violations must be handled in person.

Payment must be made within 14 days of the violation date. If payment is not received within 14 days, the paperwork will be forwarded to District Court for further action.

Traffic School

Spanish Fork City offers Traffic School for eligible drivers who receive a citation from the Spanish Fork Police Department. Successful completion of the program allows the City Prosecutor to dismiss the eligible charge.

Total cost: $155

This includes:

  • $35 Plea in Abeyance fee
  • $120 online Traffic School fee

To qualify for Spanish Fork Traffic School:

  • You must have received a citation for a moving violation in Spanish Fork.
  • The citation must have been issued by the Spanish Fork Police Department.
  • Citations from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office or Utah Highway Patrol are not eligible.
  • You must not have taken Spanish Fork Traffic School within the past year.
  • You must have had a valid driver’s license at the time of the citation.
  • You cannot be a CDL holder.
  • You cannot have been speeding more than 30 mph over the speed limit.
  • The violation cannot have occurred in a construction zone or school zone.
  • Your citation cannot include a charge requiring a mandatory court appearance.
  • Alcohol-related offenses are not eligible.
  • You must be at least 16 years old.

1. Complete the Plea in Abeyance form.

Submit the online Plea in Abeyance form to the Court.

You cannot continue with Traffic School until this step is completed.

2. Wait two business days.

After submitting the form, wait two business days to allow Court staff to set up your payment online.

3. Pay the $35 Plea in Abeyance fee.

Use the Utah Courts District or Justice Court ePayment system.

Enter your citation number and select Search By Citation. Your case will appear and allow you to pay the $35 fee.

Important: If the amount shown is more than $35, call the Court at 801-804-4800 before making a payment. Do not pay the citation fee instead. The Court will not issue a refund, and Traffic School completion will not be honored if the citation fee is paid instead of the Plea in Abeyance fee.

After paying, note your case number, which you will need to register for Traffic School, and keep a copy of your payment receipt.

4. Complete the Street Rules online course.

To register, you will need:

  • Court case number
  • Driver’s license
  • Copy of your citation
  • Payment for the $120 online course fee
  • Course password: SPANISH FORK

Start Traffic School

The first time you visit the course, select Start New Course. You may stop during the course and return later by selecting Re-enter Course.

5. Complete the course.

After you complete Traffic School, Street Rules will automatically send your certificate to the Court. You may call the Court at 801-804-4800 to confirm that the certificate has been received.

If all requirements are successfully completed, the City Prosecutor will dismiss the charge. If the requirements are not completed, a guilty plea will be entered, the Traffic School and Plea in Abeyance fees will be forfeited, and you will need to contact the Court to pay the citation.
