Accessory Dwelling Units

An accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, is a secondary living space located within a single-family home or in a permanent accessory structure. ADUs must meet City zoning, parking, building, and design requirements.

Key Requirements

• Owner occupancy is required.
• Only one ADU is allowed per single-family dwelling.
• Minimum lot size is 6,000 square feet.
• ADUs are allowed in most residential zones.
• Internal ADUs require at least 3 off-street parking spaces.
• External ADUs require at least 4 off-street parking spaces.
• ADUs must be registered with the Community Development Department.
• Impact fees and separate electric meters are not required.
